University Medical Center Reiki Volunteer Program

The UMC Reiki Volunteer Program in Tucson, Arizona was launched in June of 2006. The three major contributors are all Certified Reiki Master Teachers:

Mega R. Mease: Program Director-Advisor/Volunteer Practitioner
Carolyn Valenzuela: Patient Advocate/ Volunteer Advocate/ Volunteer Practitioner
Marsha Drozdoff: Hospital Liaison

All volunteers must have completed Master-Teacher or Advanced training. Second Degree practitioners are accepted under specific circumstances. In addition, all volunteers receive extensive in-house experience. We feel this is a necessary component of offering a service where patients will feel comfortable and safe. This service is a complimentary service for patients, supportive people and staff.

The primary goal of this program is to enhance the well-being of patients, the patient’s support system, and/or medical staff. Our secondary goal is education and therefore establishing and maintaining cooperation between the allopathic and holistic communities. The spirit of the program intends to expand its presence and contribution as a recognizable complement to the existing quality care already present as it perpetuates the credibility of Reiki in the hospital environment.

We are dedicated to quality care and an honorable reputation. This program has created and maintains a standard level of professionalism complimenting the traditional Reiki code of ethics.
